Only in exceptional years is a Garrafeira is made. João decides if any of his planted varieties show exceptionally well. If so, they may be chosen for the Garrafeira bottling. This is in essence a "reserve" wine, to be bottled and then stored at the winery for a period of time until deemed ready to drink. Our Garrafeira offering is the 2013 Chardonnay. With 8 years of age this wine is beginning to show some complexity. The classic apple and pear notes are supported by notes of vanilla, butter and honey. A long finish that is full bodied, but not cloying due to the characteristic streak of fresh acidity that is present in all of João's wines.
